Chennai: City corporation will soon hold a high-level meeting with 38 other government departments to discuss city's monsoon arrangement plans. Public works department, Chennai metro water, State highways, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and police departments will chalk out the annual monsoon plan along with city corporation.
Already an inter department preliminary meeting was conducted by the top brass of the corporation and the shortcomings have been assessed. Fisheries and agriculture department which are part of the flood mitigation project have been requested to keep their boats and high power motor pump ready so that they can be pressed in to service if the situation arises. Our idea is to create a network comprising government departments that will respond immediately once the monsoon sets on, a corporation official explained adding that a directory of response team will also be formulated ahead of monsoon.
After facing devastating floods in last December, the Tangedco's has directed the officials to take all pre cautionary works including pre-monsoon maintenance works to avoid accidents. A senior official of Tangedco said that field engineers were instructed to take up trimming of tree branches that are falling on the conductors and also to tighten loosely hanging conductors. The instruction was also given to raise the height of the pillar-boxes and replace damaged poles while ensuring periodic maintenance of distribution transformers. “All the works will be completed by September,” the official said.
