Telangana Government to pay more to families affected by land acquisition
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government on Monday placed before the High Court a policy it has formulated to rehabilitate and resettle the families affected by land acquisition through the GO Ms No. 123, issued on July 30, 2015.
The government told the court that it would adopt welfare measures to protect the affected families including agriculture labourers, artisans, SCs, STs, BCs, other labourers who do not own any land but have been residing therein for last three years.
Hyderabad HC to take up one more plea today
A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice U. Durga Prasad Rao was hearing an appeal by the state government challenging an order passed by a single judge quashing the GO which allowed various government departments to purchase land from farmers.
The court, on an earlier occasion, wanted to know from the government about its plans for resettlement and rehabilitation of the families and those who do not have land and those who depended on agriculture and allied activities for their livelihood.
The court said, while land owners would receive a compensation, it wanted to know as to what would be the fate of the families and other individuals affected by procurement of lands for public projects?
While placing the rehabilitation policy before the bench pursuant to its instructions, advocate-general K. Ramakrishna Reddy submitted before the court that the GO was issued in order to expeditiously procure land from the “willing” land owners for public purpose, including creation of public infra for raising agricultural production in rural areas, creation of employment and economic growth. Following a request from counsel, the bench directed the Registry to post another writ petition challenging GO 123 along with the appeal.
