Many waiting for allocation of 2BHK lose patience, occupy homes ‘illegally’

ADILABAD: Aspiring beneficiaries waiting for allotment of 2BHK have started occupying the constructed homes without waiting for their formal release.

The eligible beneficiaries are to yet be selected by the authorities through a lottery in Mancherial. The process is getting unduly delayed, complain those who had applied for the houses.

Political leaders, MLAs, police and housing officials are worried over the trend of applicants illegally occupying the 2BHK house in anticipation that they would be allotted these sooner or later.

There was a major delay in the allocation of these facilities to the beneficiaries. For the first time, such an incident took place in Mancherial district on July 6. Some leaders of opposition parties supported this aggressive action.

Nearly 30 families occupied 2BHK in Rajivnagar in Mancherial town. Police made an attempt to vacate the houses.

Families along with luggage forced their entry into the 2BHK houses by breaking open the locks.

Police and housing officials rushed to the spot and persuaded the occupiers to vacate the houses.

Two women, Sheik Ayesha and Sheik Afrin, attempted suicide by consuming a bathroom cleaner as officials forced them to vacate the houses they occupied. The two were shifted to a local government hospital for treatment.

Many applicants say they will go and occupy the 2BHK houses on their own and without permission. This is forcing the officials to speed up the allocation process.

The occupants say they have applied for houses long back and were unable to bear the huge rents they pay. “We face a lot of hardships during the rainy season by living in huts. The construction was completed long back but the allotment is getting delayed for long.”
