Woman walks in with damaged millets at Tiruchy collectorate
TIRUCHY: A section of members of the Tamil Nadu Tiruchy Central Sub Branch unit of the National Federation of the Blind led by their state executive member R. Kaliamoorthy appealed to the State Government to hike the monthly financial assistance to the differently-abled from Rs 1,000 to Rs. 3,000.
In their memorandum to the district collector, Mr. S. Sivarasu at Tiruchy on Monday, they also demanded free houses or free house site pattas, to provide four per cent reservation in the Government jobs for the differently-abled and to enact the differently- abled protection act on the lines of the Central Government.
An 80-year-old Mrs. Mokkayee Ammal of Thinnanur village came with her son Ganasekaran carrying sheaf of damaged millet crop and showed it to the collector how ithad been destroyed by wild animals. She urged suitable compensation for her crop loss besides to put an end to the wild animals' menace.
A section of workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (100 days job scheme) of Mayilrangam village also met the collector complained that they were not given jobs since April this year.
After a patient hearing, the collector Mr. Sivarasu assured them that he will look into all their grievances.
