Thrissur: The DYFI will be forming a human chain at Kuthiran twin tunnel site on July 12 at 4 p.m. with the participation of 2,000 of its activists protesting against the inordinate delay in the completion of 30 km six-lane toll highway between Mannuthy-Vadakkenchery and the twin tube tunnel which is one-kilometre long.

DYFI district functionaries said that the main contractor KMC was selected during the UPA government for the project and the NDA government too failed to put pressure on the company to complete the project for which the contract of which was signed in 2009.

“Former Alathur MP P.K. Binju, Ollur MLA K.Rajan and others have filed several complaints with Union surface transport minister Mr Gadkari. But the union minister and NHAI has not yet given an proper reply on when the  works will be completed,” P.B. Anoop DYFI district secretary said.

The human chain will be made by the NH starting from Kuthiran tunnel site for a stretch of 2 km towards Thrissur side.

Meanwhile, DCC general secretary Shaji Koda-nkandath who had filed a suit in High Court over the incompletion of work said that MP Mr Prathapan had asked Mr Gadkari to call a meeting of all the concerned parties to discuss the issue.

“The company is saying that the delay was due to hurdles in land acquisition. KMC needs `250 cr to complete the work due to cost escalation. Since October 2018, no proper work has taken place. Now, the NHAI is saying the project will be over by May 2020,” he said.
