Thiruvananthapuram: MBBS admissions for poor deferred

The court has fixed a 50 percent ceiling for reservation.

Thiruvananthapuram: The MBBS admission for economically weaker sections of non-reservation categories has been deferred. The commissioner for entrance examination will conduct the admissions to these seats only during the second phase.

The admission schedules for the second phase of allotment to engineering, architecture and pharmacy courses and the first phase for MBBS, BDS, agriculture, veterinary, forestry and fisheries course were published on Monday.

The admissions will commence on Tuesday. Moreover, there were some legal questions over MBBS reservation for financially backward among the forward caste in the state.

The court has fixed a 50 percent ceiling for reservation. If ten percent more is implemented, the reservations will go over 50 percent.

Hence, the commissioner for entrance examinations has not issued the admission order for this category.

Candidates who belong to economically weaker sections (EWS) of non-reservation categories can submit relevant documents to prove their eligibility for admissions in government medical colleges. For this, candidates can enter the candidate portal on the website www.cee.kerala.gov.in by giving application number and password and download the form in the prescribed format as per the G.O.(MS) No.52/2019 GAD dated March 14 from the link 'EWS Certificate'.

The general candidates of the state other than SC/ST, SEBC and OEC categories can upload the certificate in the above format given by a revenue officer not below the rank of tahsildar up to 4 p.m. on July 15. The date for uploading the document will not be extended further and the candidates who fail to do so will not be considered for EWS category.
