Kochi: Syro-Malabar Church land case posted for July 12

A person named Martin Payyappally has submitted the petition.

Kochi: The Muvattupuzha munisif court has posted the hearing of a petition linked to the selling of the land of the Ernakulam-Angmaly archdiocese for July 12 as counsel for Cardinal George Alenchery sought more time to submit response to the points raised by the complainant. A person named Martin Payyappally has submitted the petition stating that he came to know from media that attempts are being made to sell the land owned by the archdiocese at Kottappady in violation of procedures.

The court issued notice to Cardinal Alenchery, major archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, seeking the response of the church in the matter last week.

Cardinal Alenchery having met with suspended auxiliary bishops Sebast-ian Edayanthrath and Jose Puthenveetil the other day revived the possibility of amicable settlement to the tussle between supporters and opponents of the cardinal. Although the cardinal asked the two to return to the Bishop’s House they insisted on getting new assignments to do so. Cardinal replied that it is for Vatican to take a decision in the matter.
