Hyderabad: Humiliated by the harassment of classmates, a Class X student studying at a private school attempted suicide by hanging at his home. He is recovering in a hospital.

According to the Saroornagar police, the 14-year-old was a student of Neo Royal High School at Kar-manghat and resident of Green Park Colony.

On July 3, the child came home from school in the evening looking very upset. He went inside a room bolted the door and attempted to hang himself from the ceiling. His parents realised something was wrong and broke open the door. With the help of neighbours, Ravi was taken to a hospital and his condition is said to be stable, said the police.

Saroornagar sub-inspector L. Ravi Kumar said: “The boy wrote a note and mentioned the names of two classmates who have been bullying him. He was allegedly slapped on his back and felt humiliated. He stated that he gave Rs1,000 to the students who were teasing him but they were demanding another Rs 1,000.”

Based on a complaint from his father, a mason, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prohibition of Ragging Act.

“The boy's statement will be recorded once he recuperates and action will be initiated. The boys who were named as responsible by the victim for his extreme step are also minors, and they need to be questioned,” said the SI.
