Hyderabad: Cop, three of family die in road crash

Except for the driver, none of the passengers had fastened their seat belts.

Hyderabad: A head constable of the Mattewada police in Waran-gal district and four of his family members including wife and son died when the SUV in which they were going to Srisailam rammed into a lorry at Amangal in Ranga Reddy district.

Police said head constable P. Durga Prasad, 55, his wife Vijaya Laxmi, 45, son P. Shantan, 25, sister Padmaja and brother-in-law Raju, 40, were in the SUV.

At about 3 pm, when the SUV reached the outskirts of Amangal, the car rammed into a lorry which was taking a turn on the main road.

Amangal sub-inspector A Malleshwar said: “The mishap occurred when car driver Khaleel failed to control the vehicle. He had fastened the seat belt, but the other occupants had not done so.”
