Pothole ordeal at Kukatpally Vivekananda statue
Hyderabad: Road users find it maddening to drive on the road near Vivekananda statue in Kukatpally, as it is riddled with potholes. The road, which is a national highway, was in good shape till about a month ago when it was dug up and restored unevenly. Rain over the past two weeks has made the potholes deeper, and making driving a dangerous affair. Some of the potholes are so deep that vehicles get damaged when unwary drivers drive over them.
Residents have made numerous to the civic body which only appears to apply a temporary fix. Mr Nageshwar Rao, a resident, said, “When development activities are being taken up, authorities need to take into account that there is heavy vehicular traffic on this stretch. This free left connects to the highway and is used by thousands of vehicles at it is a main junction. The repair work has to be expedited before a heavy downpour.”
Another commuter said, “The road poses a risk. Several sharing autorickshaws and buses loaded with passengers use this road. Any further delay will make matters worse.”
A GHMC official said that Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) had taken up development activity on either side of the road. The GHMC is volunteering to fill the potholes with mud as part of emergency measures till the Metro Rail work is completed.
The official said, “HMRL has taken up the work and people are complaining to the GHMC. Whenever potholes develop, our teams are patching them up considering safety of citizens.
