Due home for Dasara, Sharath Koppu's plan cut short

Police in US set out $10,000 reward for killer's arrest.

Hyderabad: Koppu Sharath, 26, the techie who was shot dead at a restaurant in Kansas, US, on Friday, had called home only hours before the incident. Sharath’s last words to the family was that he was heading to work. Sharath had left for the US to do his MS at the University of Missouri in January and was to come back home for Dasara.

Kansas city police has issued a video grab of the shooter, who remains unidentified, on Sunday and set out a $10,000 reward for his arrest. Sharath, from Warangal, used to stay in Ameerpet with his father, Mr Rammohan Koppu, an accounts officer at BSNL, and mother Malathi, who works with the governmet’s panchayat raj department. His sister Akshara works in a bank.

Mr Koppu said he came to know about Sharath’s death on Saturday. “My son had a part-time job at a restaurant. He was trying to escape during a burglary when the burglar shot him,” Mr Koppu said. Sharath was an alumni of the Vasavi Engineering College.

Mr Satyanarayana, a family friend of the Koppus and a colleague of Mr Koppu, said Sharath had gone to the US six months ago. “He had a comfortable job at Pegasis as senior consultant for three years. He always had a passion to go study in the States and when he got accepted in University of Missouri for the MS programme, he left the job and went there,” Mr Satyanarayana said.
