Thanjavur: Abdul Rasool (7) from Peravurani is a heart patient. Doctors diagnosed him with a hole in his heart and said he needed surgery. He was evaluated free of cost at the paediatric cardiac evaluation camp held at the Deputy Director of Heath office of the deputy director of health at Thanjavur on Sunday.
His parents, Sheik Mohammed and Madina Begum from Peravurani in Thanjavur district, are hopeful to get a solution to their son's problem in the camp.
"We had a female child before Rasool. She was diagnosed with the same condition before she died. We want to save our only son now",they told DC.
Like Abdul, Thameeth is a ten-month-old female child who also been diagnosed to have a hole in heart. Her grandmother Madeena Beevi, also from Peravurani, said that they may find a solution in the camp. There were nearly 160 children with cardiac problems who came to the camp with their parents.
A.Annadurai, Thanjavur district collector, inaugurated the camp and said that Tamil Nadu is in the forefront with respect to providing medical and health care in India.
"Generally, parents brings twins to the collectorate on Mondays, Between the two, one child will be healthy while the other would have heart or brain issues. I appreciate various hospitals which organise this camp," the collector said.
According to S.Singaravelu of R.K.Hospital for women and children, Thanjavur, one of the organisers of the camp, the exercise was a joint attempt of Amirtha hospital, Kochi and Genesis foundation, New Delhi.
Screening will be done at the camp and those who need immediate surgery will be taken to Amirtha hospital at Kochi where the surgery will be done for free.
35 out of 160 children have been identified to undergo surgery. Ten of them who need immediate surgery will be transferrred in a week to Amirtha hospital, Kochi, Singaravelu said.
