Visakhapatnam: 84-year-old gets justice after 30-year legal battle
Visakhapatnam: An 84-year-old woman from Vizag, V. Rajeswari, who had been fighting a legal battle over the past 30 years seeking pension and retirement benefits of her late husband, has won the case at last. On the eve of National Lok Adalat, principal district judge P.V. Jyothirmai on Saturday gave her a cheque on the district court premises for Rs 1.98 lakh towards pension and retirement benefits of her late husband.
Ms Rajeswari was wagging the legal battle since 1986, after the death of her husband who was dismissed from service from Hindustan Shipyard Junior College in 1982. The High Court had passed an order in his favour and declared that the dismissal was illegal and declared that 1986 be deemed as his year of retirement and he was entitled to pension from 1986.
“Even thereafter pension and other benefits were denied and today the cheque was delivered and balance amount will be paid in four weeks,” judge Jyothirmai said. Speaking at the meeting, the district judge said she was satisfied that the amount could be credited while Rajeswari is alive. She called upon the people to utilise Lok Adalat service for cheap and easy remedy. Joint collector G. Srijana, police commissioner T. Yoganand, metropolitan session judge Nagarjuna, president of Bar P. Balakrishna, president of Forum pf Legal Professionals Kuppili Muralidhar and others were present.
