TN equal to Cuba in public health ranking: C Vijayabhaskar

These new projects would push Tamil Nadu health sector further.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu is now a globally recognised state and ranks equivalent to Cuba in public health. With the state unveiling 108 new health schemes for the fiscal 2017-18 remarkable progress will be achieved in reduction of infant mortality and deaths among pregnant mothers, said state minister C. Vijayabhaskar on Saturday.

Felicitating doctors during a function organised by the Tamil Nadu chapter of Indian Medical Association the health minister briefed that a fund of Rs 10,158 crore has been allocated during the recent Assembly session.

New cath labs, zero delay ward, additional; trauma care centres, Centre or excellence to improve child care at government general hospitals and cloud computing for non-communicable disease are on cards.

These new projects would push Tamil Nadu health sector further. Already Tamil Nadu is a pioneer among Indian states on health sector and now the prevalence of HIV infection from HIV infected mother to children has been drastically brought down to 0.25 per cent as a result in TN is next to Cuba and Thailand in bringing down the incidence of HIV transmission.

On education front new diploma course in psychiatry nursing along with diplomat national board courses have been introduced. Health secretary J. Radhakrishnan also spoke.
