Telangana dealers split on fuel strike

No purchase-no sale' of fuel called on July 12.

Hyderabad: The All India Petroleum Dealers’ Association has given a nation-wide call for “no purchase-no sale” of fuel on July 12 to protest against the daily revision of fuel prices. Petroleum dealers in TS are divided over joining the strike. While some dealers said they would observe only “no purchase” of fuel from oil marketing companies on July 12, some others said they would ignore strike call citing ongoing Bonalu festive season. Dealers claim that they were suffering losses due to daily revision and demanded that the Centre increase their commission immediately.

“We are yet to take a final call whether to go on strike or not. There are different opinions on this among dealers. Some dealers want to observe only ‘no purchase agitation’, while some others are against any strike at this stage when Bonalu festivities are going on, which may invite public wrath. Most probably Telangana will not join the strike,” said Rajiv Amaram, president, Telangana Petr-oleum Dealers’ Association.

He said the petrol pumps in Telangana had observed “no purchase” agitation very recently on July 5 and dealers feel that it was not correct to go on strike again within a week. Mr Amaram said the Centre had agreed to look into our demand on increasing commission after reviewing daily revision of fuel for two to three months.
