Rs 51,000 shaadi shagun' to girl graduates who avail Centre's education sop
Hyderabad: The Union ministry of minority affairs has decided to introduce a scheme to offer a financial assistance of Rs 51,000 for the marriage of girls who have availed the ministry’s scholarship for education. “We decided in a meeting day before yesterday, like Shadi Mubarak in Telangana state, to the girl child who does graduation by availing our scholarship, we will give Rs 51,000 as Shaadi Shagun,” Union minister of state for minority affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here on Friday.
“I think it will support education in a big way. Telangana state is doing, but in the country, the poorer sections among minority community face lot of difficulties,” he said. The parents of the girl children say that they are not able to save money for the marriage of the girl as they have to spend considerable amount of money on education even after availing the government's scholarship, the minister said.
He said similar centres would be established in 100 districts. Besides providing job-oriented skill development courses, the centres would also offer a certificate course in GST. Mr Naqvi was speaking at the Gareeb Nawaz Skill Development Centre at Vijayanagar Colony. A few moments before the arrival of the minister, MIM MLA Meraj Hussain followers staged the protest at the venue for not printing his name in the welcome banner. He got into an argument with Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali and boycotted the programme for a while.
Mr Naqvi also inaugurated a vaccination camp for Haj pilgrims at the Haj House. Shortly before his arrival, some Muslim groups protested the lynching of Muslims in different parts of they country. They were cleared by the police. Mr Naqvi said the Centre was planning to provide travel by sea to Haj from next year.
