Police to get more modern armoury

A contingency medical fund for the fire & rescue services personnel for their treatment expenses when they suffer injuries wa announced.

Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Saturday announced distribution of more bomb detecting equipment, bullet proof kits and new vehicles for police, besides construction of new police stations.

Bomb detecting equipment including letter bomb detectors, besides bullet-proof kits would be bought for police use, he said. A software to analyse evidence obtained from television would be bought, he said.

Among the seven new police stations, three of them would come up in Chief Minister’s district of Salem. Besides, he also announced 22 new police vehicles for his district. The Chief Minister also said a forensic laboratory would be opened in Salem.

He made the announcements while replying to the debate on demand for grants to police department in the Assembly. The Chief Minister came out with a new plan of electronic receipt for punishing those indulging in traffic rule violations. Law and order maintenance equipment including polycarbonate lathis and shields and helmets made of fibre would be distributed to handle clashes.

He said CCTVs would be installed in 100 police stations and digital communication centers would be set up for police in Tiruchy, Pudukottai and Tirunelveli. Palaniswami announced a contingency medical fund for the fire and rescue services personnel for their treatment expenses when they suffer injuries. The government would provide '50 lakh every year for this fund. The monthly risk allowance for fire and rescue personnel would be doubled, he said.

He also announced the construction of permanent bay for stationing the newly purchased 104 meters aerial ladder platform vehicle at Tambaram.
