Indigenise defence hardware: Dr RK Tyagi
Bengaluru: Public sector and private sector companies in the defence sectors should complement each other, said Dr R.K. Tyagi, Mentor Director of Defence Industry and Innovators Association (DIIA) and former CMD of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited while addressing a gathering of DIIA here on Saturday.
Dr Tyagi spoke about the capabilities of the Indian industry as world-class suppliers of defence goods. “Since we only produce sub-systems, the value absorbed within India is only a minuscule part of the overall profits of a defence business. If the Indian industry has to retain the value it creates, then it needs to move from the screw-driving assemblies to systems-engineering roles,” he added.
State Industries Minister R.V. Deshpande stressed on the indigenisation of the defence sector. He highlighted the potential of Karnataka as the top destination for indigenisation. DIIA Chairman Rahul Chaudhry called for greater indigenization of defence technology. and that Indigenous technology and a defence industrial base can make India a defence exporting nation.
