SC to hear defamation case against Rahul Gandhi today
New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Saturday hear the plea of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi seeking a stay on the Bombay High Court order, refusing to quash the defamation case against him over his remark on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The apex court had earlier in April adjourned the plea till second week of May. Gandhi had earlier urged the apex court to reject the defamation case filed against him by the RSS in March.
Gandhi's counsel had earlier argued that there are several judgements and evidences that would prove that the defamation case filed against him was frivolous.
According to reports, the Congress vice-president had also turned down the Supreme Court's offer to express regret for his comment holding the RSS responsible for Mahatma Gandhi's assassination and get the defamation case filed against him buried.
Earlier, Gandhi had also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the RSS of trying to create disruption in plural but harmonious social fabric in Assam.
