Congolese wife murder: Police drags 6-year-old Sania around courts
Hyderabad: Six-year-old Sania, who was bereaved in Tuesday’s family tragedy, was made to run between three courts before she was handed over to the care of Kasturba Memorial Trust at Hydershakote on Friday.
Sania had been shifted to the state-run home at Nimboliadda earlier this week as her father Rupesh Kumar Mohnani, 36, was arrested after murdering his Congolese wife Cynthia Vechel.
On Friday, she was produced before the VIII metropolitan magistrate court at Rajendranagar, where the case was then transferred to the Ranga Reddy family court at LB Nagar.
This court sent the case back to the metropolitan magistrate court, who handed her over to the Kasturba Trust and adjourned the hearing to Monday.
At the courts, Sania became emotional after seeing her paternal grandmother Leeladevi. The court permitted Ms Leeladevi to spend time with Sania, during which both broke into tears.
Family members said Sania who was studying in Ravindra Bharathi High School at Gachibowli, has a close bond with Ms Leeladevi as she along with her parents used to frequently visit their home at Padmaraonagar, Secunderabad.
“When we are here to take care of her, why should my child be left like an orphan in some strange place? She is innocent. Instead of troubling her, we request the child to be given to us.” Ms Leeladevi said.
The Ranga Reddy family court said the VIII MM court could take a decision on her custody. Cynthia’s family and officials from the Congo Embassy were present at the court to file a petition for Sania’s custody.
“She is very much attached to the culture here and is not willing to go back. In the next hearing we will file a petition as per the Guardians Act and seek her custody.” Ms Leeladevi’s counsel Kumar Yadav said.
