Bribe offer: I've recused from case, says Karnataka Chief Justice

The Chief Justice reacted to their request, saying that he has already recused himself from the case which was sufficient, Mr Puttegowda said.

BENGALURU: Following Karnataka Chief Justice S.K. Mukherjee’s claim that ‘someone’ offered him a bribe for a favourable verdict in a land case, a team of lawyers on Friday met Justice Mukherjee, requesting him to take action in the matter.

Former AAB president KN Putte Gowda told Deccan Chronicle that the team met the Chief Justice and pleaded with him to take immediate steps on the issue, saying that such incidents tarnished the image of the institution and its reputation in the minds of the public and litigants.

The Chief Justice reacted to their request, saying that he has already recused himself from the case which was sufficient, Mr Puttegowda said.

The Chief Justice, after stating that someone had approached him offering the bribe, had ordered: “Since one of us (Subhro Kamal Mukherjee, Chief Justice) is not inclined to take up this matter on personal grounds, let this matter go out of the list.”
