Hindi letters erased from GOI name boards in Tiruchy

Some miscreants who have erased the Hindi letters on the official boards of various Central Government offices.

Tiruchy: The city police are on the lookout for some miscreants who have erased the Hindi letters on the official boards of various Central Government offices, including the name board of the Tiruchy International Airport, post office, ATMs, customers service centre name board at the Head post office and the office boards of a few other Central government offices including the local BSNL headquarters, past midnight on Friday.

Police said the miscreants might have used sprayers to spray black paint to tar the Hindi letters on the official name boards of various Central government offices.

This sudden burst of anti-Hindi sentiments comes couple of days after a controversy broke out over the new draft Education policy of the Central Government making three-language policy mandatory. But, later the draft was revised to make clear Hindi will not be made compulsory in non-Hindi speaking states in the wake of DMK and other parties in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere stoutly protesting the move.

Further investigations are on, police sources added.
