H K Patil raises voice over water tariff hike
BENGALURU: Veteran Congress leader and former minister H.K. Patil has done it again — this time attacking the rural development and panchayat raj (RDPR) ministry for planning a hike in tariff of water distributed through units installed across the state.
Mr Patil, who spoke up against the cabinet’s decision to allot land to JSW in Ballari and pointed fingers at some senior ministers, shot off a letter to CM H.D. Kumaraswamy, opposing the proposal to hike the tariff from ten paise to 25 paise a litre of water.
“The Congress is always a pro-poor party. It started Indira Canteen and Anna Bhagya meant for poor. When we take care of hunger we need to quench people’s thirst. But we are taking contradictory steps. Therefore, I would request you to continue with the present tariff of 10 paise," he said in the letter.
His second successive attempt to haul the coalition government over the coals has surprised colleagues in the party as he has remained a disciplined Congressman through his political career.
