Chennai: Canadian couple lose $8,000 in hotel room

According to police, the Canadian couple reached India earlier this week on a tourist visa.

Chennai: A foreign tourist couple staying in a hotel at Mylapore here, reportedly found that their $8,000 currency, equivalent to Rs 4.5 lakh, was stolen from the hotel room, police said on Saturday.

According to police, the Canadian couple reached India earlier this week on a tourist visa. They were staying in a star hotel in Mylapore. Police said the couple left the hotel room on Friday morning and returned that night, when they found $8,000 kept in their room, missing.

A complaint was lodged with the Royapettah police.

Police said, "We are browsing through CCTV footages of Savera hotel in Mylapore, where the couple was staying, to find out if somebody had entered the room. They were not sure where and when the theft happened, and so police are browsing camera footages from the hotel. We are also questioning the staff and investigations are still on," police claimed.

It was the hotel staff who handed over the complaint of the tourists, to the police.
