Chennai: The Advocate General has issued notice to C.R. Saraswathi, spokesperson of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, led by T.T.V. Dhinakaran, to appear before him either in person or through her counsel on June 18 in connection with an application seeking his written consent to initiate contempt of court proceedings against her for allegedly casting aspersions on the judiciary.
Advocate general, Vijay Narayan, ordered notice to C.R. Saraswathi on an application filed by advocate M. Dakshinamoorthy, district joint secretary, Chennai North East, AIADMK party advocate wing.
“When the matter was listed for admission on June 6, counsel for petitioner had appeared. Whereas the Advocate General of Tamil Nadu on June 6 has ordered notice to Respondent (C.R.Saraswathi) and the counsel for the petitioner returnable by June 18, at 4:30 pm for hearing. Therefore, notice is hereby given to the respondent and counsel for petitioner to appear either in person or through their counsel before the Advocate General of Tamil Nadu in his chamber on June 18 at 4:30 pm, on which date the above application will be heard,” said the notice issued by the Advocate General’s office, to C.R. Saraswathi.
In his application, Dakshinamoorthy submitted that he was inclined to file this contempt petition against C.R. Saraswathi for her alleged comments defaming the reputation of the Judiciary and the Judges. On May 1, 2019, while he was watching a programme in a Tamil private satellite channel, Saraswathi had abused the judiciary system in such a way that public would lose hope with our judicial system, and thereby, test the integrity of the judges. n P2
She alleged, “Everyone knows how the court is being conducted for the past two years. After the BJP has come to power, the court acts as per BJP’s order, and let it be a Contempt of Court. Is a court required to give a judgment after one-and-half years in 18 MLAs case? Why is the court not delivering the judgment in the 11 MLAs case. Let it be a contempt of court, I do not mind.”
Thereby, Dakshinamoorthy said Saraswathi had abused the process of Indian Judiciary system, which was a clear act of contempt of courts. Therefore, appropriate action has to be initiated against her and suitable punishment given for her serious allegations made against the judiciary and the judges of the Madras high court, he added.
