UP trader, who accused Yogi's aide SP Goyal of bribery arrested

Late in the Friday night, Mr Gupta reportedly submitted a written apology and withdrew his charges while in police custody.

Lucknow: Lucknow witnessed high drama on Friday after the police arrested the man who had accused S.P. Goyal, principal secretary to the Chief Minister, of demanding a bribe of Rs 25 lakhs.

The parents of Abhishek Gupta, the man who raised the allegation, reached the CM’s residence, demanding justice and wanting to know where their son had been held by the police.

Late in the Friday night, Mr Gupta reportedly submitted a written apology and withdrew his charges while in police custody.

A video clip of Mr Gupta saying he had lost his mental balance when his file for land for petrol pump was rejected by Mr Goyal went viral on Friday night. He said he had taken a loan of Rs 1 crore and could not bear the setback.

Mr Gupta, a resident of Hardoi, had written to UP Governor Ram Naik saying Mr Goyal demanded money when he approached him for additional land as the width of the road to the petrol pump which he was allotted was less than stipulated. Mr Naik then apprised the CM of the matter.
