Science, Maths students choose coaching

Apart from Sanskrit, students are re-appearing for improvement exams for subjects like science, maths, physics, chemistry, botany, zoology.

Hyderabad: Ninety per cent of science and maths students appear for improvement exams, and most do so after taking coaching. Even if students get 50 marks out of 60 in science, they want better marks, said Ms B. Jayaprada, District Intermediate Education Officer (DIEO).

“Apart from Sanskrit, students are re-appearing for improvement exams for subjects like science, maths, physics, chemistry, botany, zoology, and English for Eamcet weightage as well as degree college cut-offs,” she said.

Mr Madhusudhan Reddy, president, Government Junior Lecturers Association, said students were not willing to lose even two marks in subjects like physics and chemistry.

He adds that MEC and CEC students try for admissions in top colleges for which they need top scores because of the high cut-offs. "For this reason they write improvement exams, and go in for rechecking and revaluation,” he said.

Prof. Srini Bhupalam, an education expert, said, “More than marks students should focus on grasping concepts and developing applications which is more important for life-long success in the real world rather than just focus on marks.”
