New Delhi: Minutes after former President Pranab Mukherjee delivered his speech at the RSS headquarters at Nagpur on Thursday, morphed images of him giving an RSS-style prayer position started doing the rounds of the social media, prompting his daughter and Congress leader Sharmistha Mukherjee to remind the veteran leader of the warning she had issued earlier.
“See, this is exactly what I was fearing & warned my father about. Not even few hours have passed, but BJP/RSS dirty tricks dept is at work in full swing!”she tweeted, highlighting the photograph. She, however, said theirs was a “democratic, argumentative family” and she had no problem expressing differences with her father.
The RSS, however, blamed the “divisive political forces” for the morphed photograph, saying first they tried to make the former President refrain from attending its event and then posted a morphed photograph showing him in a prayer position identified with the organisation. “We denounce and strongly condemn the lowly act of these divisive political forces who are deliberately trying to defame the RSS,” RSS joint general secretary Manmohan Vaidya read in a statement. BJP veteran L. K. Advani also praised Mr Mukherjee for his visit.
