Present complaint over fees if any, Mahatma Gandhi University to students

The university had imposed additional charges for services like revaluation of examination sheets, improvement of exams.

KOTTAYAM: The Mahatma Gandhi University has asked the students' union leaders to present their objections on the increased fees structure implemented recently. The university had imposed additional charges for services like revaluation of examination sheets, improvement of examinations, attendance shortage and getting transcript certificate.

Some of the fee increases are the following. (Old fees in brackets): Revaluation of an examination sheet-Rs 500 (Rs 350). Consolidated marklist-Rs 800 (Rs 300). Improvement of an examination paper-Rs 250 (Rs 150). Rectifying 20 days of attendance shortage-Rs 1,000 (Rs 560).

Genuineness certificate-Rs 2,000 (Rs 1,000). Super fine-Rs 1,000 (Rs 500). Vice-Chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian told DC that the restructuring was last done in 2007. It was revised now owing to the additional expenses in conducting the examinations. The decision was to bring the fees structure at par with that of Kerala and Calicut universities. "We have asked the students to present their suggestions to make changes in the revised fees structure," he told DC.
