Hyderabad: Trash disposal to speed up
Hyderabad: The GHMC will build four more garbage transfer stations in addition to the 20 that it already runs. The existing transfer stations will be modernised with the cooperation of the public in segregation of waste at home, and will become places to visit for education and awareness on solid waste management.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said that additional transfer stations were being built for better efficiency and would be relatively odour-free. Short-haul vehicles collect garbage from local areas and take them to the transfer stations, where they are segregated and loaded on t larger trucks to be taken to the dumping site at Jawaharnagar.
“So far, garbage was dumped in the open at transfer stations. This ledi to protests from the neighbourhood because of the stench. By constructing modern transfer stations, the problem can be minimised”, he said.
