Hyderabad: Small gate soon at Express Road

Access only to pedestrians in certain hrs.

Hyderabad: The Local Military Authority will set up a small gate on Express Road to give access to school students and church-goers, near Trinity Church, Trimulgherry in the Secunderabad Cantonment.

Though the demand is for full passage on the road, the access is limited only to pedestrians in the permitted hours. This was the outcome of talks that Legislative Council member N. Ramachandra Rao and former SCB vice-president V. Jai Prakash had with General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, TS and AP sub area, Maj. Gen. N. Srinivas Rao on Friday.

Schools in the area close at about the same time, resulting in all students coming on to the road and causing a traffic problem near the Rajiv Rahadari. The children are also forced to cross the main road, which leaves them vulnerable, as the alternative passage is closed.

Mr Jai Prakash said, “The road is used by thousands of students and as well as church-goers on Sunday. So we requested full access to the road.” The Army was reluctant to open up the road as there are many houses where Army families stay. Maj. Gen. Srinivas Rao said, “We will inspect the road in a day or two, then we will arrange a wicket gate for the children.

Giving full access is one thing that we cannot assure as this street accommodates Army families, whose husbands are in the borders.” Mr Manne Krishank, Congress spokesperson, said, “We were fighting for access to this road at least for children. We are happy that at least the children won’t be troubled any more.”
