Bengaluru: The C.K. Achukatu police on Friday arrested sandalwood actor Duniya Vijay, for allegedly obstructing the police from carrying out their duty and help film producer Sundar P. Gowda evade arrest. However, within a couple of hours after the arrest Vijay secured bail.
According to the police, they got a tip off that Vijay was hiding in a resort in Bandipur forest near Tamil Nadu border. Around 9:30 am the police tracked him down and arrested him.
However, while the police were preparing to produce him before a court, Vijay secured anticipatory bail and by 11 am he was out.
Film producer Gowda was named one of the accused in the 2016 drowning incident at Thippagondanahalli reservoir, when two stuntmen lost their lives during the shooting of Maastigudi film.
On May 30, the police went to arrest Gowda at his house in C.K. Achhukattu, along with a non-bailable warrant from Ramanagara court, as he was not appearing before the court.
When the police arrived at Sundar’s house, Vijay who was present there, engaged them in a long conversation and Sundar escaped.
Vijay told police that Sundar’s mother was ill and assured them the producer would appear before the court the next day. However Sundar managed to secure bail and evade arrest.
The Tavarekere police had then informed the jurisdictional police C.K. Achhukattu police to take action against Vijay.
The police had filed an FIR under IPC section 353 and 225 for obstructing the police officials from carrying out their duty and since then the actor had been absconding to evade arrest.
