Hyderabad High Court notice to Telangana on home guards' plea

B. Rachana Reddy, counsel appearing for the petitioners, told the court that 188 home guard were selected in the open category.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Thursday issued notices to the TS government and the state-level Police Recruitment Board in response to a petition by home guards belonging to ST community challenging the failure of the authorities to consider them for the posts of police constables.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao was hearing a petition by L. Srinivas and 18 other home guards, questioning the authorities sending 152 home guards for training out of 188 home guards, including the petitioners, selected in the open category for the recruitment as constables, despite of a stay by the High Court following a PIL.

B. Rachana Reddy, counsel appearing for the petitioners, told the court that 188 home guard were selected in the open category.

When a PIL was filed challenging the recruitment, the court granted stay pertaining to the selection of home guards.

She submitted that 152 candidates were sent for training, but not the petitioners who belong to the ST community, despite they having secured similar marks.

Ms Reddy contended that the action of the authorities amounted to violation of equality with no viable reason.

While pointing out that the action of the authorities might be contempt of court, the judge issued notices to the respondents asking them to file counter affidavits.
