Hyderabad: Civil Services examination third ranker slams institutes

IAS aspirants should verify claims made by coaching centres before joining them, Gopalakrishna said.

Hyderabad: When Ronanki Gopalakrishna secured the third rank in the all-India Civil Services examination, multiple coaching centres in Hyderabad claimed to have trained him. On Thursday, Mr Gopalakrishna hit back at them. “I have never joined any coaching centre. I took coaching from Ms Balalatha Mallavarapu only for my general studies paper,” he said.

It is a common practice for IAS aspirants to give mock interviews at many institutions, in preparation for the main interview. “I gave mock interviews, too, at ten institutions, like many others do. But once I secured the third rank, they used my photograph and started calling me their students. This has deeply saddened me as there is a lot of criticism against me on social media for encouraging the coaching culture. My result is because of my hard work. How can someone else claim credit?” he said.

As a Collector, soon to be posted in Andhra Pradesh, Mr Gopalakrishna wishes to focus on bringing about improvements in the education sector. He also wants to work towards the empowerment of farmers and women.
