Bengaluru: Bengaluru development minister K.J. George said a Bulgarian company delegation will be visiting the city in the next two weeks for a discussion on the proposed six-lane tunnel road in Bengaluru to decongest roads of heavy traffic.
Replying to K.C. Kondaiah (Congress) in the Legislative Council on Thursday, he said two companies including the Bulgarian company have shown interest in the project. The government had a round of preliminary talks with the Bulgarian firm which has estimated the project cost per km at around Rs 600 crore. There would be six lanes including two emergency lanes.
“We have sought details from the company concerned and its representatives are arriving for one more round of discussion,” he disclosed.
The steel bridge project from Hebbal to Basaveshwara Circle in the city was scrapped after Greens protested over the cutting of trees with the National Green Tribunal(NGT) too opposing it. The government had proposed to spend Rs 1,900 crore and an additional Rs 200 crore on further extension of the bridge.
Development without cutting trees is impossible, the minister said adding that the city had around 65 lakh vehicles for its one crore plus population. In view of this, the six-lane tunnel road was under consideration.The project was still at a preliminary stage and members would be informed once everything was finalised, he said.
