New surgical block in Kozhikode medical college hospital soon
Kozhikode: Kozhikode Medical College Hospital is all set to begin a new surgical super speciality block and trauma care unit. The decision was announced during a meeting held on Wednesday at MCH campus in the presence of State Principal Secretary Health, Rajeev Sadanandan and the heads of each department of the hospital.
The new blocks will be constructed in the old women’s hostel block, which was recently demolished for the construction of a separate super speciality hospital for MCH. “Our mission is to raise Kozhikode MCH to international standards and in this attempt two speciality blocks will be constructed in the first phase”, said Rajeev Sadanandan.
At present the existing super speciality block of MCH does not have a surgical block. So far the patients in the super speciality block who require surgery were transported to the Medical college main block. Rajeev Sadanandan also announced that the present hospital would be retained as a medical speciality hospital and more specialities in the health sector would be started here.
During the meeting, the Health secretary also pointed out the gravity of the health department in neglecting to adopt precautionary measures to prevent the spread of diseases like malaria. “A report will be submitted to the Union health department pointing out the lapse of the State in the sector”, he added.a
