Kozhikode: Malaparamba school shut down sans scuffles
Kozhikode: Without a scuffle or confusion as expected before, Assistant Education Officer on Wednesday completed the procedures of the closure of Malaparamba Aided Upper Primary school, thereby implementing the Supreme Court direction, and at the same time following the Government order. The students for the time being were shifted to the Collectorate conference Hall, as per the decision of the All Party meeting held in the presence of the District Collector.
It was after the School Protection Committee assured that it would not create any problems as declared before, the AEO arrived at the school and completed the procedures of closing down this 140 year- old-institution. The District Collector himself offered to take the 60 students of the school to the Collectorate, where a temporary set of classrooms has been arranged and regular classes will start.
It was around 4.30 pm that AEO KS Kusumam took with her all the documents and other files related to the school including the strength of teachers and students. Though the state government had informed the court that they would takeover the school, the court first wanted them to implement the court order and then move ahead with further steps.
“Since the Government has come forward with their decision to take over the institution, we are ending our indefinite strike on its 65th day”, said A Pradeep Kumar MLA. "We wanted Government to arrange a temporary set up for the students to continue their studies and hence the conference Hall was made available," he added.
“Students here should not miss even a single day of the academic year just because of the legal issues going on which in no way involves them”, said District Collector N Prasanth.
