Thiruvananthapuram: The state cabinet on Wednesday decided to take over four schools, including the one at Malaparamba, which has secured a favourable verdict for closure. These aided schools will be taken over after paying compensation to the managers.
Education Minister C. Raveendranath told reporters that the government would inform the Supreme Court its willingness to take over the schools. However, any final decision will be as per the directions of the court.
It was not practical for the government to take over all schools which are on the verge of closure. The financial liability and the opinion of the finance department should be considered for it, he said.
Mr Raveendranath said the government would go to any extent to protect public schools in the state and look into the possibilities of amending the Kerala Education Rules (KER).
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also said that closure of schools in the state was not the policy of the government.
