Jayalalithaa to meet PM on June 14
Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa will undertake a day-long visit to New Delhi on June 14 during which she will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold detailed discussions on issues concerning the state. Politics is expected to be on the agenda of talks between Mr Modi and Ms Jayalalithaa as the BJP is actively wooing the AIADMK to join the National Democratic Alliance.
An official release from the Tamil Nadu Government on Wednesday said Ms Jayalalithaa would be leaving for New Delhi on June 14. “The Hon’ble Chief Minister will call on the Hon’ble Prime Minister and discuss important issues relating to Tamil Nadu,” the release said, adding that Ms Jayalalithaa will return to Chennai the same day.
Ms Jayalalithaa is likely to raise issues like financial package for Tamil Nadu, water issues with neighbouring states and the issue of fishermen being arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy with the Prime Minister. The Chief Minister is also expected to seek “generous” financial assistance from the Centre to fund her pet projects.
DC had on June 1 reported that Ms Jayalalithaa would travel to the national capital to hold talks with the Prime Minister.
