Karnataka: Constable praised for attending election duty a day after mother's death

Gadag: In a heartwarming display of duty consciousness, a police constable from Gadag district has grabbed the attention for reporting to election duty just a day after his mother's death.

While there are people who prefer to avoid election duty, Ashok of Betageri Extension Police Station has set an example of commitment towards duty.

Ashok's mother, Shankravva (80), passed away on Monday. Ashok chose to complete her last rites and then appeared for election duty at the mustering center at the GT College in Gadag on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters after being felicitated by the officials for his duty consciousness, Ashok stated that his mother had suffered a leg injury from a fall about a year ago. Despite receiving medical treatment and undergoing surgery, the problems persisted. She developed breathing issues on Monday and passed away. While Ashok's brother is at home to take care of things, Ashok chose to come for his election duty.

"I did not take leave. My mother took care of me when we were young, and similarly, now the police department is taking care of me. My duty is also like a mother to me, so I decided to come for the election duty today," an emotional Ashok added.

Impressed with Ashok's commitment, State Police Chief Praveen Sood praised his duty consciousness, stating in a tweet, "His mother passed away while he was deputed for election duty. He was asked to proceed on leave but he refused to go. Duty first. Proud of you. His colleagues felicitated him for commitment towards duty."
