Government likely to issue termination orders to striking JPS

Hyderabad: Majority of the junior panchayat secretaries (JPSs) on Tuesday decided to continue their strike despite the government’s warning that their services would be terminated if they failed to join duty by 5 pm.

There are over 9,500 JPSs and fewer than 500 had rejoined duty within the deadline, the association said. The government is expected to issue termination orders on Wednesday after receiving reports from district collectors on JPSs who did not resume work.

Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said that the government will consider the regularisation demand if they withdrew their strike. A stand-off ensued with the JPSs stating that they would return to their offices only if the government gave in writing that their services would be regularised.

The JPSs are on strike since April 28, demanding regularisation of their services.

The JPSs were recruited in 2019 through TS Public Service Commission (TSPSC) on a two-year probation period, till 2021. The probation period was extended by one year till 2022. They completed four years of probation recently in April and went on strike after the government failed to regularise their services.

The JPSs said they were demanding that the state government fulfill the assurance given by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in the Legislative Assembly that their services will be regularised.
