84.33 per cent pass plus-2 exam; Kozhikode tops

The pass percentage this year is 84.33, a slight increase from last year\'s 83.75 per cent.

Thiruvananthapuram: Of 389,238 school going regular students who appeared for the higher secondary examination from 2,047 schools this year, 311,375 have become eligible for higher studies.

The pass percentage this year is 84.33, a slight increase from last year's 83.75 per cent. General education secretary A. Shajahan announced the results at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Kozhikode with a percentage of 87.44 tops the districts while Pathanamthitta recorded the lowest of 78. Malappuram has the highest number of 18,655 candidates scoring A+ grade in all subjects.

The pass percentage is 80.07 for VHSE with Wayanad on top with 91.81 and Pathanamthitta at the lowest, 74.09. As many as 183 candidates secured 1,200 scores out of 1200, and 14,244 got A+ in all subjects. Of the 195,577 girls who took the exam, 178,264 (91.15%) became eligible for higher studies.

Among the 175,1159 boys, 134,174 (76.60%) qualified. In the science stream, 154,112 (86.04%) candidates qualified from 179,114 who took the exams, while in humanities, it is 60,681 (79.82%) out of 76,022. In commerce, 96,582 (86.04%) candidates qualified for higher studies among the 114,102 who appeared. In the sector-wise results, the Aided tops with 86.364% when 161,751 of 187,296 candidates qualified for higher studies, followed by the Government sector (83.04%) with 129,118 out of 155,487. In the unaided sector, it was 77.34 per cent or 20,289 out of 26,235.

Eligibility for higher studies is D+ or above grade for all subjects with 30 per cent scores in theory alone and an aggregate total of 30 per cent in theory, practical evaluation and continuous evaluation taken together.

The double valuation was done for the answer scripts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and tabulations of all subjects were online.

St. Mary’s HSS Pattom presented the highest number of candidates - 802 - and had a pass percentage of 94.91.

SVHSS Palemad with 712 candidates and 89.81% per cent pass and MSM HSS Kallingalparamba, Malappuram with 706 candidates and 94.62% are other schools with a large number of candidates.
