GHMC to create sixth zone in city

Parts of west and central zones will be merged to form the sixth zone.

Hyderabad: A year after proposing a new zone in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced its decision to form a sixth zone, by reorganising the west and central zone.

Officials claim that the existing five zones (North, South, East, West and Central) have 30 circles. Among which, south and central zones have the most number of circles and are larger in size. The state government is likely to issue a Government Order (GO) in a couple of days.

According to a GHMC official, the sixth zone will likely include Rajendernagar, Serilingampally, Quthbullapur, Jubilee Hills, Kukatpally and Chandanagar and other circles.

The new zones will be organised in such a way that each zone will have five circles. The new zones are being formed to provide effective administration and better facilities to citizens. There is, however, some confusion over the merging of Begumpet into the new zone and the GO would be issued once the issue is resolved.

The new zone will requ-ire 75 new posts and annual expenditure of about '8 for administrative purposes, said a senior GHMC official.

The official has also explained that the zones are not distributed evenly now, and the problem will be solved with the formation of the sixth zone, which would distribute population evenly.

The new zone will also make easier the carrying out of administrative tasks, especially tax collection and administrative work. As of now, the corporation has 30 circles and five zones. The civic body during the last month had increased the number of circles from 24 to 30 with an aim to bring administration to the people’s doorsteps.

The newly formed circles are Kapra (circle 1), Uppal (circle 2), Hayathnagar (circle 3A), L.B. Nagar (circle 3B), Saroornagar (circle 3C), Malakpet (circle 4A), Santhosh Nagar (circle 4B), Chandrayang-utta (circle 4C), Charmi-nar (circle 5A), Falaknama (circle 5B),Rajendra Nagar (circle 6), Mehdipatnam (circle 7A), Karwan (circle 7B), Goshamahal (circle 8), Musheerabad (circle 9A), (Amberpet circle 9B), Khairatabad (circle 10A), Jubilee Hills (circle 10B), Yousufguda (circle 10C), Gachibowli (circle 11), Serilingampally (circle 12), R.C.
