GHMC chief for anti-teasing panel
Hyderabad: GHMC has decided to set up an independent cell to raise awareness about women’s rights at the work place, and has sought suggestions from the Telangana Women’s Commission.
An awareness programme on the protection of women at work place and their legal rights was held by the Telangana Women’s Commission at the GHMC headquarters.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan assured that an independent cell would be formed for which they will seek suggestions from the Women’s Commission.
GHMC commissioner Dr B. Janardhan Reddy said women had to be aware of their rights so that they can protect themselves and help other women in need.
Already various schemes like She Teams have been initiated in the city to ensure women’s safety, and have yielded good results.
The commissioner further stated that every college and school should form five-member committees to curb eve teasing and other problems that women routinely face.
Emphasising the importance of registering marriages for the safety of women, Telangana Women’s Commission chairperson Venkat Ratnam said that previously each village had a committee comprising 12 women and it needs to be strengthened now.
