I-T official probing Shekhar, Vijayabhaskar case transferred

The I-T raids at the residences of Vijayabhaskar, Reddy and Rao triggered a political slugfest in Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: A senior official with the investigation wing of the income tax department dealing with high-profile cases relating to health minister C. Vijayabhaskar and sand baron Shekhar Reddy has been transferred out of the city and posted in Pune.

V. Roy Jose, Additional Director of Income Tax (Investigation), Chennai, has been transferred to Pune after having served here for the past three years, informed sources said, adding that he will get relieved from his position by the end of May.

“It is a routine transfer since the official has served his three year tenure here and was due for transfer. He will continue to be in this position for the next three weeks,” sources said.

Though I-T officials termed it “routine transfer”, the timing of the transfer throws special light since Mr Jose is handling some of the most sensitive cases to have hit headlines in Tamil Nadu in the recent past.

Sources said he has been handling the cases relating to I-T searches at the residences and premises belonging to Vijayabhaskar, Reddy and former chief secretary P. Rama Mohana Rao.

The I-T raids at the residences of Vijayabhaskar, Reddy and Rao triggered a political slugfest in Tamil Nadu since the first two came within weeks of the demise of J. Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016.
