The stalls are to promote and sell locally produced products, thereby giving a major boost to livelihoods of local artisans and workers

Vijayawada: Vijayawada and Guntur railway stations on Saturday became the first in their respective divisions to start the “One Station One Product” initiative announced in 2022–23 union budget to promote and sell locally produced products, thereby giving a major boost to livelihoods of local artisans, potters, handloom weavers, tribals and so on.

The One Station One Product stall on Platform No. 1 of Vijayawada station is marketing Kondapalli toys and local handicrafts. Likewise, the stall at Guntur railway station is selling the famous Mangalagiri textiles, handlooms and handicrafts.

The Guntur stall is being operated by Sahajamitra Farmer Producer Organisation, a self-help group aided by NABARD and Tenali Weavers Cooperative Production and Sales Society. The stall is located on the main concourse of the station.

Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager Shivendra Mohan and his Guntur counterpart R. Mohanraja complimented officers and staff of their commercial departments for implementing the novel initiative in the two divisions. They said as railway stations witness huge footfalls, they are well placed in promoting the indigenous products.

Stalls at Vijayawada and Guntur railway stations have come up after the One Station One Product stall at Tirupati railway station turned out to be a huge success.

Such stations throughout India are expected to provide a marketing channel to local products crafted by artisans of the region.
