Warangal: Sloth bear attack injures 1 villager

Warangal: One person was severely injured after a sloth bear entered Nagaram village in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district and attacked people and a herd of cattle.

According to Chief Conservator of Forests, Warangal Circle, M.J. Akbar, the injured person was 70-year-old Saheb.

The bear entered the village from the nearby forest early on Monday morning and attacked a herd of cattle. When people tried to scare it away, it jumped onto them. The elderly man who was in the group suffered severe injuries to the head, getting his skin ripped off and the skull suffering injury.

The bear was finally driven back into the forest by the villagers.

“Saheb was taken to a hospital in Warangal by his relatives and the villagers. He was operated upon and is in the ICU. Doctors say that some skull pieces are embedded in the brain and he needs another surgery,” Mr Akbar said.

Mr Akbar and Bhupalpalli forest divisional officer Saraiah visited the hospital and met Saheb, They gave his wife `10,000 to meet immediate medical expenses. Further financial support will be provided to the family, Mr Akbar said.

Recently, a bear was rescued from the Jangaon bus depot after it strayed into the town from the nearby forest and created panic among the locals.
