Telugu Desam spent Rs 37 lakh on assembly polls campaigning

The party told the Election Commission that the gross expenditure incurred for the election was Rs 37.79 lakh.

Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam said it spent Rs 37 lakh for electioneering for the Telangana Assembly elections, according to the expenditure report submitted to the Election Commission.

Before the Assembly elections in December last year, the TD central headquarters in Hyderabad showed Rs 72.75 crore in its account. Of this, Rs 36.43 crore was received through voluntary contributions and electoral bonds, it said.

The party told the Election Commission that the gross expenditure incurred for the election was Rs 37.79 lakh.

A lion share, Rs 19.95 lakh, was spent on procuring publicity material, `8.17 lakh on media advertisements and Rs 6.70 lakh on the travel expenses of its star campaigners.

The travel expense was mainly for TD president and AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s helicopter trips and for buses and cars for his road shows.

The party contested 13 seats as part of the grand alliance and won two seats.
