Nellore: Founder of girl’s college passes away
Nellore: The founder of Dodla Kousalyamma Women's College, Dodla Kousalyamma, 92, passed away at Nellore late on Sunday evening following age related problems. Her family and her husband Dodla Subba Reddy are known for their charities.
The women's college was established in 1965 in nearly 30 acres of land and was the first women's college in the region.
Thousands of girls from the region pursued higher education from there as there were restrictions on sending girls to co-education colleges then.
Her husband, Dodla Subba Reddy had donated more than 100 acres of prime land in the heart of Nellore City to establish Government Hospital some decades back.
Building for both the government college and women's college were built by late Subba Reddy and his family members. The decades old buildings are still intact indicating the quality of construction.
The huge tracts of the hospital land came in handy to build the government medical college five years back.
