KC Venugopal says Congress for no split in anti-BJP votes

He was speaking at Janasamaksham 2019, organised under the aegis of the Alappuzha Press Club here on Monday.

ALAPPUZHA: The Congress party is ready for any compromise to prevent division of anti-BJP votes in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal MP said. He was speaking at Janasamaksham 2019, organised under the aegis of the Alappuzha Press Club here on Monday.

“In the elections, the main rival of the Congress party is BJP. Our policy is to work with all parties that can oppose the BJP. In Delhi, talks are on with the Aam Aadmi Party. In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party were not ready to include the Congress in the alliance,” he said.

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that Rahul Gandhi was forced to contest from the minority dominated Wayanad constituency, Mr. Venugopal said that the Prime Minister had insulted the state. “The aim of the Congress is to oust the BJP-led government. Narendra Modi has put all the Central agencies including the Election Commission and courts under pressure. The Election Commission should ensure the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers adhere to the Model Code of Conduct. The Congress party is leaving all poll violations by the Prime Minister to the people’s court,” Mr. Venugopal said.

He said that the Sabarimala issue would be resolved amicably, if Congress was voted to power. “The issue could have been settled by the Union government by bringing an ordinance,” he said. Mr. Venugopal also rubbished the sting operation in which M.K. Raghavan MP was allegedly caught negotiating a bribe.
